From the Training Centre  
August 30, 2009  

It’s hard to believe its August; the weeks pass like days here at the training centre, it seems like just a few months have passed since we had a vote on our new expansion. In case the members have not been to the hall in a while, there has been a lot of action going on. With planning of the new addition, learning all the ins and outs of what the membership needs and wants from training, to doing weld tests on a daily basis for contractors like Aker Solutions, Aecon and the usual MCAO test. We have a stack of apprentice appraisals (we would like to thank all of our supervisors for filling out) to go through and discuss with each individual, which we look forward to because we feel that communication and team work is what builds unity, ethics and craftsmanship (Standard for Excellence) and that is what is important if we want to continue to combat the non union.

Construction has begun on the addition, with the removal of the storage building, the surrounding trees and excavation of the earth for new footings. With this brings uncertainty but we would like to reinforce that we are going full steam ahead with our fall training programs, even if we have a few delays and rescheduling that might occur. One thing that we must remember is that training is what sets us apart from the other building trades and the non union.

I’m not going to speak for everyone but it sure doesn't seem like summer has even arrived and already we are behind in getting our fall program out to print. Please bear with us, we hope to have the mailings out by mid Aug, with the JTC classes starting the week after the Union Meeting of Sept 17th, stay tuned for the fall program as we look forward to helping the members help themselves with more training.

There is one note that I would like to stress to the membership; If Chris and I have missed a course or have not registered you for a course make sure you let us know and we will gladly fix any wrong doing. Thanks for your ongoing support.
