On February 18th in the year 1911 the United Association recognized its latest local charter. Local 527 was born.

No organization can persevere and prosper for a century without having had its share of hardships and its moments of great joy and triumph. Local 527 is no exception. It’s only when you glance at the photos and documents that relate the history of our local union do you finally understand what we owe to those men and women who went before us. We are proud of our rich history and the vital role we have played in building the great community of Kitchener-Waterloo and the Province of Ontario.

Even though our Charter reads February 18, 1911, we have chosen three major events to mark our 100th Anniversary with our membership. On June 17, 2011 we will host our Gala Celebration at Bingemans in Kitchener. The Annual Golf Tournament will be raised to a new level and held on June 24, 2011 at Rebel Creek Golf Course. As well the Pin Night and Christmas Dance held on November 25, 2011 at the Waterloo Inn will have some added features for the 100th Anniversary Celebration. All members will be notified when tickets for these events go on sale.

So as we pause to celebrate our 100th anniversary we take the time to remember the members whose dedication to the craft brought us to this time and we thank them. Without them we wouldn’t be here today. We also look forward to our next 100 years and begin to plan the steps we will need to take in this ever-changing industry of ours. Regardless of what tomorrow will bring rest assured Local 527 will meet it head on.
